Friends of Roy

We couldn’t do it alone!

Northstar Pointing Labs

Located in Cottonwood, MN. This is the kennel that we got Roy from as a puppy and have stayed connected ever since. Roy spent part of 2020 and 2022 with Troy Benson running master-level American Pointing Lab Association (APLA) hunt tests. Troy is committed to breeding high quality pointing labs, and we are excited to be a part of it! Look for Roy in future breedings with Northstar.

Aspen Creek Kennels

Located in Baldwin, WI. Roy was with Aspen Creek over the summers of 2018 and 2019 and on a winter trip to South Carolina with trainer Jerry Petraitis from January – April of 2019. Since then Roy has ran numerous retriever field trials with Jerry. We are so fortunate to have Aspen Creek involved in Roy’s retriever work.

Cooperstown Kennels

Located in Vesper, WI. As soon as we started researching pointing labs Justin Vandehey from Cooperstown Kennels has been an excellent resource to us. Roy spent part of the spring of 2019 with Justin and earned his certified pointing retriever title.

Duncan Creek Kennel

Located in Bloomer, WI. Roy was at Duncan Creek just after turning 8 weeks old for some young dog bird exposure. Check him out pointing a quail at 11 weeks.

Roy is an absolutely awesome dog that has it all: looks, drive, hunt, point, marking, and trainability. Roy is new to the pointing lab world but he will be a star! We had the chance to see him work in the upland and retriever game first hand, and it was very impressive. I consider myself a very good judge of talent – Roy has a ton!

Troy Benson – Northstar Pointing Labs

Roy is a supremely talented male we had the pleasure of training and running last spring for his Certified Pointing Retriever title. The best way I can describe Roy is “he is a field trial dog that points, has an off-switch and is good looking.” That is pretty unique combination and Roy brings much of what our breeding program strives for to the table. He is a retrieving machine and runs as straight and as hard as any dog I have trained. He has a nice natural point and covers ground efficiently in the upland field.
